Volleyball…Beijing 2008

 The Womens African Qualification Tournament has begun, this report is out from the CAVB.

The big favorite teams the host Algeria and the African champions Kenya achieved their first victory in opening day of the 5 Nations Women’s African Olympic qualification tournament in the Algerian capital of Alger. The host team and the 2007 All Africa Games gold medalists Algeria started their competition by a big victory over Cameroon 3-0 in a repeated final that happened for the gold medal in the African Games.

Russia beat Germany 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-17)

Poland beat Serbia 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22)

Poland face off with Russia tomorrow in the final.

Poland beat Turkey 3:1 (27:29, 25:16, 28:26, 25:20)

The Netherlands beat Germany 3:1 ( 22:25, 27:25, 25:15, 25:23)

Russia beat Romania in 4 (25:21, 26:24, 21:25, 25:14)

Turkey beat The Netherlands in 4 (16:25, 25:19, 27:25, 25:19)

Poland beat The Netherlands 3-1 (25-17, 30-28, 16-25, 25-20)

Germany beat Turkey in 3

Germany has started the Womens European Qualification tournament off with a win over Turkey,

3-0 (25:20, 26:24, 25:19)

The womens side of the European qualification starts tomorrow.

Pool A- Croatia, Romania, Russia, Serbia

Pool B- Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Turkey

Russia have to be the favourites, but reining World Cup Champions The Netherlands will be pushing, Serbia and Poland are also in the running. It will be an interesting tournament.

Serbia beat Spain in the final of the European Qualification in 5 and has qualified for the Beijing Olympic Games.
