Japanese Tactics

Interesting view on the Japanese tactics from Andrea Zorzi

For example: the tiniest Japanese setter, Yoshie Takeshita (only 159 cm) is by far the main block target of any tactic.

When Japan is serving and Takeshita is in front row, the three players stay very close to each other, not giving any hint at all. They wait motionless, until the opposite setter has to switch the look to her own side.

At that time Takeshita starts moving to her position.

Moreover, the Japanese back row players, knowing where Takeshita will set out to block, will redouble the digging area in line with Takeshita’s blocking place.

Japan united for womens World Cup

Monday, October 8th, 2007

This years women’s World Cup is going to be interesting. Without Russia, the World Champions, after they failed to qualify through the European Championships, and China, the reigning Olympic Champions, a spot in Beijing is up for grabs. Brazil and Italy have got to be favourites for a spot, the other position is a hot one. USA, Cuba, Serbia, Poland, take your pick, all have had great recent results. One thing for sure, after winning the Asian Championships for the first time in 24years and knocking off China in the process, host nation Japan are going to have a crack.
