2008 Swatch Tour begins in Adelaide

The first round of the Swatch FIVB Beach Volley World Tour in 2008 will take place in Adelaide, Australia.

The SWATCH FIVB Beach Volley World Tour is on - in Adelaide in March, 2008! Volleyball Australia has recentlysecured this event by receiving the official sanction of the FIVB at a World Beach Volleyball Council meeting in Switzerland. This will place Australia alongside France, Italy, Japan, Korea, China, Switzerland,Russia, Norway, Spain, Brazil and Canada as host nations.

Loiola, new USA boy

Brazilian Beach Volleyballer player Loiola has been successful in his bid to be able to wear the US uniform.  FIVB reports.

The FIVB has authorized the former Brazilian Beach Volleyball player José Loiola to represent U.S.A. in the competitions sanctioned by the FIVB. The player born in 1970 in Vitoria, Brazil, has completed his official route to obtain the U.S.A. nationality. The Brazilian Volleyball Federation, United States Volleyball Association and Loiola have submitted all documentations to the FIVB in accordance with the FIVB Sport regulations and all requirements have been met by the above parties.

With the championship portion of the FIVB beach volleyball schedule done for the year, one American team is looking to score some points on the Challenger circuit. Ashley Ivy and Janelle Ruen won both of their matches Wednesday at the Women’s FIVB Hong Kong Challenger and have advanced to the main draw, which begins Friday at Victoria Park.

Ivy and Ruen used a 21-18, 25-23 victory over fellow Americans Angie Akers and Chrissie Zartman in the first round and then downed the second seed of the qualifier, Manokharan Iswari and Luk Teng Kee of Malaysia, 21-13, 21-11, in a quick 25 minutes.

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 8, 2007 - Led by Brazilians Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca and reigning Olympic and world champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh of the United States, the top women’s players on the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour were announced here Thursday based on the results of the voting by SWATCH representatives, players, coaches, referees and officials associated with the international Beach Volleyball circuit.
