Algeria in time outBlida, Algeria, January 25, 2008 - The Algerian women’s Volleyball team came one more step towards their first ever Olympic qualification after their their victory in a row over Senegal in the third day of the 5 Nations Women’s African Olympic Qualification tournament in Blida, Algeria.
Kenya rebounded after their defeat against the organizers in the second day to beat South Africa in straight sets.
Algeria led the standings after the third day with 6 points from win loss ratio 3-0, followed by Kenya 5 points from 2-1. Cameroon came third with three points from 1-1, then Senegal and South Africa at the bottom of the table with 0-2.
The highly motivated Algerian team played well enough to secure their third victory over Senegal 3-1 after the emerging opponent showed their consistency all through the match.
Kenya found it easy to defeat South Africa 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-16) due to the highly experienced Kenyan players who represent the continent in the 2007 FIVB World Cup in Japan.
The African Olympic Qualification features five teams Algeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Senegal and South Africa competing for the lone African slot in the 2008 Olympic Games.
The fourth day will feature two matches on Friday as Algeria meets South Africa searching for their fourth victory and the Olympic ticket. Senegal plays Cameroon in a tough face of.
