Results Day 2 African Qualifications


Cameroon team achieved their first victoryBlida, Algeria, January 24, 2008 - The Algerian team used the great support of their home spectators and the high performance of their stars specially the European based professionals Faiza Tsabet and Lydia Olumou to beat their arc rivals Kenya in their big face of during the second day of the 5 Nations Women’s African Olympic qualification tournament in the Algerian capital of Alger.

Cameroon team rebounded back after their defeat against Algeria in the first day to win the second match against South Africa.  The match between Algeria and Kenya was considered as an actual final for the Olympic ticket and so it was held in front of a big spectator attendance in Mostafa Tchaker hall in Blida. The host team showed their consistency through the efficient block of the Olumou and the spikes of Tsabet to win the match easier than expected 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-13). Cameroon team improved their defense and corrected their mistakes to overcome South Africa 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-9). The 2007 All Africa Games silver medalists showed good reception that allowed them to build up the attacks using the good spikes from all the net positions. After the second day Algeria leads the standings with 4 points from two matches followed by Kenya and Cameroon 3 points from two matches and South Africa and Senegal 1 point ion one matchThe African Olympic Qualification features five teams Algeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Senegal and South Africa competing for the lone African slot in the 2008 Olympic Games. The third day will feature two matches on Thursday as Algeria meets Senegal searching for a third victory while Kenya meets South Africa. FIVB
