Spain, Germany and The Netherlands with Big Wins

Check out this press release on the big results from yesterdays day of play.

Spain, Germany and the Netherlands all were remarkably successful on the 3rd day of the preliminaries in the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in Beijing and therefore once again opens all bets to determine which teams might qualify for the semi-finals.

In Pool A, Spain qualified for the semi-finals by barely beating Italy 3 to 2. After having won the first set 25-21, the Spanish team lost some of its motivation and superb game and lost the following two sets to the Italian team which proved more concentrated and performing in its attacks. In the fourth set however, the Italian team commits several mistakes and gives the advantage to Spain which wins 25-19 before showing a very strong determination in the decisive set and thus winning the match 3-2.

Poland, which had clearly beat Italy 3-0 the previous day, lost against the Netherlands in a challenging and bouncing match. After winning the first set 25-19, the Polish players lost some of their energy in the second and third sets against the more determined and vindictive team of Peter Blange. But Poland wasn’t about to lose its chance to qualify for the semi-finals and easily took the fourth set on the score of 25-16. Both teams then fought harshly in the tie-break, and thanks to a well organized and highly efficient block, it is finally the Dutch team which wins the match 3 to 2. more FIVB
