USA Volleyball has an update and a small match report from the boys win against Dominican Republic

The U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team defeated the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) on Sunday in its first pool-play match of the 2008 NORCECA Men’s Continental Olympic Qualification Championship in Caguas, Puerto Rico.Reid Priddy (in red) hits against Victor Batista and Eury Almonte of the Dominican Republic on Jan. 6 in Puerto Rico. The U.S. Men will face Barbados in a second pool-play match on Monday followed by host Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

Gabe Gardner (San Clemente, Calif.), Clay Stanley (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Tom Hoff (Park Ridge, Ill.) each scored eight points for the U.S. Men. Victor Batista had 13 points for the Dominican Republicand Jose Caceres had 10. Team USA had 11 blocks on Sunday as compared to two for the Dominicans.

“It is a good way to start,” said Hoff, who had three blocks. “We made many mistakes in the second and third, but we are happy with the victory.”
