In a match that promised to be a fight to the end, the Team Canada Women did not fail to put on a great show for the pro-Canadian crowd in attendance tonight in Monterrey. The team was “on” right from the start and overpowered Puerto Rico en route to a 3-2 victory. Set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 18-25 & 16-14 in favour of Canada.
The match began on an exciting note, full of long rallies, big hits, massive blocks and amazing digs and eventually ended with Canada coming out on top 25-22.
The action continued into the second set with Canada holding a confident lead throughout. Thanks to countless unforced errors by the Puerto Ricans and a motivated and tuned in Canadian squad, they held on to win the set 25-21.
Canada had a much slower start in the third, and with fewer errors Puerto Rico took the lead early on. The two teams fought back and forth and remained tied until 21, when Puerto Rico pulled ahead and took the set 25-22.
