Check out the CEV press release on the first day of competition of the Pre Qualification Tournaments

In Szombathely (HUN), the Belgian teams ensured their first match by easily beating Denmark in three straight set (26:28 22:25 20:25), but Finland had to fight against the Estonian team. Winning the two first sets (25-21, 25-17) the Finish players thought they would easily win the match. But this was not taking into account the fighting spirit of the Estonian team, which took the advantage in the third and the fourth sets (25-21, 25-22). In the last decisive set, Finland finally came back and won (15-9).

In Catania (ITA), the host team went immediately ahead in the pool. They closed the first set on a score of 25-18, and controlled with solid blocks the second set with 25-19. In the third set, Montenegro tried to come back on the score but Cernic and the Italian ability in recovering and attacking allowed the Italians to easily ensure their victory 3-0.

Netherlands beat Romania 3-0. An easy success, even if Peter Blange’s team took some time before getting into the match.  In the fist set, after a good start, Romania took the lead of the match with a good series of powerful attacks. Netherlands suffered a little in receiving but then came back on the score finalizing a better performance in the final part of the set and closing 26-24.
The second set started on the same path: Netherlands took the lead 4-0and the Romanians suffered the very effective and various attacking skills giving Netherlands the opportunity to go 2-0 ahead. In the third set, Netherlands went immediately ahead on the score and controlled the opponents in a comfortable way blocking any attack and closing their start in the pre-Olympic qualification pool with a 3-0 victory.

    I cant wait for the Olympics. I think China will be on top of the womens this time…with their recent wins…what do you think???
