Luxembourg, 28th November 2007. The men’s European qualifications to the Olympic Games 2008 start again with three pre-qualification tournaments. Today, the European Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournaments will begin in Szombathely (HUN), Catania (ITA) and Evora (POR). In the three events, which will be held from 28th November to 2nd December, six teams in each venue will fight for the ticket for the Qualification Tournament organized in January 2008.

The six participating teams of each tournament will play in 2 pools on 3 preliminary competition days. The two best teams of each pool will be qualified to the crossed semi-finals on Saturday and the winners will dispute the final on Sunday. The winner of each Pre-Qualification Tournament qualifies for the European Qualification Tournament in January 2008, which will be organized from 7-13th January in Izmir (TUR). In case men’s teams qualify to the Olympic Games through the World Cup in Japan, the best runner-up of the three finals will qualify to the European Qualification Tournament, taking into account all matches played within their own tournament.

Two European men’s teams already secured a spot for the European Qualification in Izmir. Besides host Turkey, Serbia as bronze medal of the 2007 European Championships played in Moscow in September 2007, will also compete for the much-desired ticket to the Olympic Games 2008.
