Kenya has been offered a three-week training deal in the Dominican Republic if they qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games in China next year.

Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) vice-president, Hoffiz Marte who is Dominican, said their local federation was ready to host Kenya if they won the January Africa Olympic qualifying round in Algeria.

Marte added that Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) would only need to cater for air tickets and their Dominican counterparts would take care of the rest.

“Kenya has a promising team of enthusiastic players but lack exposure. Dominica is ready to host you for three weeks if you qualify for the Olympics,” Marte told KVF vice-chairman Martin Makokha on Sunday.

Makokha welcomed the offer, saying it would be ideal for Kenya to train outside Africa if they qualified for the Olympics.

“According to what we’ve experienced at the World Cup, Kenya needs to play more international matches to learn modern techniques in volleyball,” said Makokha.

African countries will be fighting for a single slot reserved for the continent at Olympics.

“What is before us is to plan how to win in Algeria before we start to draw our training programme,” Makokha added.

Hoffiz also donated 12 kneecaps to the national team during the second round matches in Sendai and worked to ensure Kenya played at the World Cup when they faced expulsion threats after presenting poor quality uniforms at the preliminary enquiry in Hamamatsu.

Dominica is a volleyball playing nation that regularly participates at major international events.

They have featured at Athens 2004 Olympiad, World Championships (five times), World Grand Prix (four times) and played once at the World Cup.
