Kenya national women’s team arrived safely in Japan and declared that their focus was now on the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Cup starting on Friday.

The East Africans were the first team to arrive in Hamamatsu after a long journey that started in Nairobi on Monday and ended on Tuesday night.

After arriving at Sansai Airport in Osaka where they were received by officials from Kenya Embassy, the team proceeded to Hamamatsu where they will play their first phase matches in a road journey that lasted hours.

Head coach, Sammy Kirongo, said they had forgotten all that happened before their departure from Nairobi and their concentration was on the tournament. Kirongo said: “All the things that we witnessed while we were preparing for the tournament, whether good or bad, are behind our mind.”

“Our intention is to train and acclimatise for the few days remaining to be in shape,” said Kirongo, who is making his debut at the World Cup as head coach. Kirongo, who led Kenya to the Africa Cup of Nations title in Nairobi last September, said the players were in perfect shape despite having traveled a long journey.
