Phuket Womens Open starting tomorrow

Some more info on the Phuket Open starting tomorrow. Walsh and May- Treanor will secure their Beijing places by playing in this tournament having successfully competed in the 8 mandatory events. Leading Chinese and Brazilian pair are already qualified.

Like all events on the 2007 women’s SWATCH-FIVB World Tour calendar, qualifying means a chance for money for the lower-rated teams on the international Beach Volleyball circuit while the top-ranked tandems seek to better their position for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

 

Starting here Wednesday on Karon Beach, 31 teams will be seeking one of the eight remaining berths for the “money” rounds in this week’s US$200,000 Phuket Thailand Open, the last of 17 women’s events on the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour calendar that started last May in Shanghai.

 

The Main Draw starts Thursday for the Phuket Thailand Open with the eight qualifying teams joining the 24 tandems that earned “money” round berths due to their SWATCH-FIVB World Tour rankings.  The final two teams compete Sunday afternoon for the gold medal and the $32,000 first-place prize.
