Japan united for womens World Cup

This years women’s World Cup is going to be interesting. Without Russia, the World Champions, after they failed to qualify through the European Championships, and China, the reigning Olympic Champions, a spot in Beijing is up for grabs. Brazil and Italy have got to be favourites for a spot, the other position is a hot one. USA, Cuba, Serbia, Poland, take your pick, all have had great recent results. One thing for sure, after winning the Asian Championships for the first time in 24years and knocking off China in the process, host nation Japan are going to have a crack.

At a press conference following the draw, the head coach of Japan’s women’s team, Shoichi Yanagimoto, said: “There are many strong teams who have qualified for the World Cup, so it is going to be very hard for Japan in this competition.

“But our ultimate aim is to get a ticket in advance for the Olympic Games. The Asian Championship was a good tournament to prepare for the World Cup and the team is very united.” More AVC
